Privacy Policy

This policy covers the SimpleDex apps for iPhone and Android, the SimpleDex web app at simpledex.cavender.dev, and this website.

In short: SimpleDex has no accounts, no ads, and no analytics or tracking. It never asks for your name, email address, location, or any other personal information. The only data that leaves your device is what's needed to load Pokédex data and artwork and, in the mobile apps, to deliver app updates.

What stays on your device

• Mobile apps: the Pokédex data and artwork you've viewed, so they work offline, and your theme choice (Light, Dark, or System).
• Web app: your theme choice, in your browser's local storage, and an offline copy of the app's own files.

None of this is sent anywhere. Uninstalling the app, or clearing the site's data in your browser, deletes it.

What leaves your device

Pokédex data

SimpleDex loads Pokémon data from Convex, which hosts it. Requests say only which Pokémon to load. Like any server, Convex receives your device's IP address in order to respond.

Artwork

Pokémon artwork is downloaded from GitHub, where the PokeAPI project publishes it. GitHub receives your IP address in order to send the images.

App updates (mobile apps only)

The mobile apps check for updates with Expo's EAS Update service. Each check sends:

• a random ID created when the app is installed, which isn't based on your device's hardware or any account
• the app's version and build information
• if an update ever stopped the app from starting, the IDs of the failed updates and the error message

Expo stores the ID and your IP address with each check to deliver updates, roll them out gradually, and count how many installations have each update. Error messages are deleted after three days. This data isn't linked to your identity, and Expo doesn't use it for advertising or sell it. Expo handles it on SimpleDex's behalf as a service provider; see Expo's privacy explanation for more.

Hosting

The web app and this website are hosted by Vercel, which, like any web host, receives your IP address and browser details when you visit.

What SimpleDex doesn't do

• It doesn't use cookies.
• It doesn't sell or share data, or use it for advertising.
• It doesn't track you across other apps or websites.

Children

SimpleDex is suitable for all ages. It doesn't ask anyone, including children, for personal information.

Deleting your data

There are no accounts, so there's no profile to delete. Uninstalling the app deletes everything stored on your device and the update ID with it. The update records Expo keeps aren't linked to you, so they can't be looked up by person; if you have a question about them, contact SimpleDex below.

Links to other sites

SimpleDex links to other sites, such as PokeAPI and the developer's website. Their own privacy policies apply there.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
